School Recognitions

Our SunSmart policy has been developed to ensure that all students attending our school are protected from skin damage caused by ultra-violet rays from the sun. We have a no hat, no play policy.

The wearing of hats, which protect the face, neck and ears, is compulsory whenever the children are outside during Terms 1 and 4.

All students are required to wear school hats that protect their face, neck and ears, i.e. legionnaire, bucket hat. We encourage the use of SPF 30+ broad spectrum, water resistant sunscreen when the students are in the playground, on excursions and playing sport.

Dederang Primary Schools is proud to announce that we are officially registered as an eSmart school.

We have introduced policies and activities to improve the way our school manages cybersafety and cyberbullying. This helps students, staff and the wider school community build confidence to be smart, safe and responsible users of digital technology.

We encourage everyone in the school community to continue to uphold and promote eSmart behaviours, at school and at home. We annually send home Acceptable Usage Agreements for both students and families to sign. This agreement outlines safe behaviours that students promise to adhere to, if not consequences will follow as a result of their actions.

Be You is a whole-school approach involving the members of the school community – school staff, parents and carers, students and the broader community– building and refining a thriving positive culture where everyone feels a sense of belonging. This means our school is committed to addressing the needs of the school community. It involves looking at what the school teaches in relation to social and emotional learning, ensuring that teaching is interactive and inclusive, building partnerships with families and the broader community that are inclusive and respectful, and reflecting the diversity of the school community in the development of policies and procedures. It is widely recognised that effective and sustainable interventions in schools occur when a whole school approach is implemented.

Our whole-school approach is particularly important when it comes to addressing children’s mental health and wellbeing because of the significant influences of the family, community, staff and peers on children’s mental health wellbeing.

Children’s mental health and wellbeing is promoted and supported when the key people in their lives come together to work in partnership in the best interests of students.

Dederang primary school is committed to this whole school approach and is working toward being a Be You accredited school.

Dederang Primary School is an accredited dogs connect school.

Boo our Wellbeing and Engagement dog is a lovely addition to our team. She supports students and staff when they need a break, distraction or pat. Boo loves to listen to stories, be inspiration for stories or be a partner in class activities.

At Dederang Primary School, we are proud to offer Breakfast Club each morning from 8:45 to 9:00 AM. This initiative provides students with a nutritious start to their day, offering a variety of breakfast options in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Breakfast Club ensures that all students, regardless of their circumstances, have access to healthy food before school. It also promotes a sense of community and helps students feel ready and energised for their learning ahead.

In 2016, Dederang Primary School received a community grant funded by the Gardiner Foundation to develop an outdoor kitchen with microwave, sandwich press and kettle for students to access during recess and lunch break to heat up / prepare meals.

The kitchen is at the heart of the school community – a space where kids learn, cook, and tell stories, and where the wider community gathers for special events like Mother’s Day, NAIDOC Week and Landcare incursions.
